Floorhand

The floorhand is the backbone of the service rig. This person’s main role is to provide physical support to the rig crew by performing various tasks such as operating a pipe wrench or operating hydraulic equipment. The floorhand is responsible for keeping the rig, equipment, and work area clean, organized and efficient, and performing maintenance on equipment and tools. The ideal candidate for this position should be physically fit, able to lift and move heavy equipment, and able to stand and walk for a minimum of 12 hours per day. They should also be safety-conscious and function well in a team-oriented environment.

 

The ideal candidate for this position is someone who has physical strength and is willing to learn. This person should have a positive attitude, be enthusiastic, and demonstrate a willingness to listen, watch, ask questions, and take guidance from experienced crew members. They should also be safety-conscious and able to comply with all safe working policies. Overall, the ideal candidate for this position should be physically fit, safety-conscious, enthusiastic, and willing to work as part of a team.


 

Responsibilities and Accountability

  • Working on the Rig Floor while the driller runs tubing or rods in or out of the wellbore

  • Keep the rig, equipment and work area clean, organized, and efficient

  • Assist in rigging up and rigging out rig and equipment

  • Understands basic rigging chains, tag lines, and hazard zones when in use

  • Safely operate a pipe wrench, alone or together with the other members of the crew

  • Operate and maintain hydraulically operated tubing tongs and rod tongs

  • Operate forklift and or telehandler when trained and certified

  • Operate hydraulic catwalk

  • Roll tubing on pipe racks

  • Be a visible spotter when mobile equipment is moving around on location

  • Assist with maintenance of the rig equipment: oil changes, greasing and cleaning

  • Cleaning of inside of buildings

  • Assists Derrickhands and Drillers when required

  • Understands LOTO Program and trained in LOTO

  • Basic understanding of BOPS and assists in installing BOPS along with tightening up BOP nuts and bolts

 

Safety and Compliance

  • Follow all of Victory Well Servicing standards for safe work procedures as they are set forth in the Health & Safety manual and the Safe Work Procedures Manual

  • Cooperate with the Rig Manager, Driller and Derrickhand in complying with all safe working policies 

  • Report all near miss incidents and any unsafe conditions to the Rig Manager or the Driller

  • Be an advocate for safe working conditions and be aware of any unsafe work requests and the right to refuse unsafe work.

  • Perform maintenance on hand tools. (i.e. hammers, pipe wrenches)

 

Physical Demands

  • Able to lift, carry, push/pull and move heavy equipment.

  • Able to perform labour intensive repetitive tasks.

  • Able to stand and walk for a minimum of 12 hours per day.

  • Ability to use respiratory protective equipment and other associated safety equipment as per manufacturers and legislative requirements. This includes glasses instead of contact lenses while using the breathing apparatus.

  • No identified medical conditions that may affect these specifications or pose a hazard to the individual or others around them.

 

Personal Demands

  • Able to be away from home for extensive periods of time.

  • Able to provide and maintain the required clothing and safety equipment needed for the job position if required or not provided.

  • Able to meet and maintain the grooming requirements for the job position to prevent injury while working with well servicing equipment.

  • Able to function in a team oriented environment.

  • Ability to work in extreme weather conditions, i.e. cold and heat.

  • Has a valid driver licence to drive company vehicle on rig moves or to go get parts

  • Location of Position: West Texas 

  • Working Conditions:

    • Travel Requirements: must have a valid passport with the ability to obtain a work visa. Victory Well Servicing will assist with and pay for the visa application. Victory Well Servicing will cover flights to and from the work site for the on-shift days.   

    • Housing: accommodations and meals while on shift are paid for.

      • Subsistence pay is provided for local residents (days worked). 

    • Shift Schedule: 20 days on and 10 days off, 12 hours per day 

    • PPE is provided
